We investigated intensity and small fluctuations of the X-ray and EUV coronal emission by using simultaneous Solar Active region observations with the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) of the Yohkoh mission, and with the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE). It is found that the TRACE light curves exhibit fluctuations which are significantly larger than the estimated photon noise and other instrumental effects. This is considered as a clear signature of the underlying discrete impulsive coronal heating events (nanoflares).
Comparison of these data with the theoretical predictions obtained from the forward modelling of the nanoflare heating yields an estimate of about 10 24 erg for the energy of individual nanoflares in the Active Region of the Sun.
