The natural oscillations of thickness profiles of electrostatically supported dust rings are investigated. First, the problem is formulated, and then natural-oscillation periods are analyzed through linearized equations. A full set of equations for a selected set of cases is studied numerically, and an investigation is carried out to determine whether the ring oscillations are in resonance with other phenomena in the planetary magnetosphere and whether the resonance distances coincide with observed rings or dust features. It is concluded that electrostatically supported dust rings will oscillate if the ambient plasma conditions are changed, and it is suggested that corotating magnetic-sector-plasma features could be in resonance with the natural oscillations of rings and thereby increase the actual ring thickness above the electrostatic equilibrium.
