Deep photographs of NGC 5128 (Cen A) taken on the UK 1.2m Schmidt telescope are presented which show very faint diffuse extensions aligned approximately with the radio lobes. However, the optical isophotes and radio contours do not coincide exactly. The position angle varies with distance from the nucleus for a series of X-ray, optical and radio features in the NE quadrant, perhaps indicating precession of the central source. The faint optical extensions have colors similar to those of the main body of the galaxy, and may consist either of stars or dust. The Space Telescope should be useful for detailed study of discrete wisps and knots, and for the discovery of similar features in more distant radio galaxies.
