Some of the recent progress on SNe Ia light curves and spectra will be presented. Spectra taken very early after the explosion show the presence of high velocity features. Multi-dimensional modelling shows that the strength and distribution of such features can be explained with the presence of a limited number of overdensity blobs expanding at v~20-25000 km/s. Early- and late-time spectra can be used to explore the abundance distribution in the ejecta. Inferences about the distribution of different products of nuclear burning are derived. Finally, the effect of different isotopic ratios on the observed properties of a SN (light curves and spectra) is investigated.
