The Euler equations of motion describing the equation of the earth are integrated. The two basic simplifications of the theory of the rotation of the earth about its center of mass are examined: (1) the assumption that the mass distribution of the earth is in dynamic (axial) symmetry, and (2) the representation of external attractive bodies as material points. It follows from these simplifications that the expansion of the potential of mutual gravitational attractions of the earth and external bodies is limited by terms whose order of smallness is not higher than the third degree of inverse distance between them. It is shown that the theory of a dynamically symmetrical solid earth does not take account of secular variations of the elements of the rotation of the earth about the center of its mass.
