During the main sequence evolution of a star more massive than 10 M_&sun;, a superadiabatic but still convectively stable zone appears just outside the convective core. This is mainly because the adiabatic temperature gradient is low due to high radiation pressure in such massive stars. I will review the treatments of such zones. I will point out that such zones appear in the atmospheres of white dwarfs in a certain effective temperature range, and predict a possible instability of white dwarfs having such a superadiabatic but convectively stable layer.
