This paper points out the relevance of impact experiments into ice and ice-silicate mixtures for the study of comets. After a brief summary of the properties of cometary surfaces, a short overview over the available papers dealing with experimental impacts in ice and ice-silicates is given. Then, the crater rate onto comet Wirtanen is estimated. The conclusion identifies future necessary work.
