The radiation field in an externally illuminated optically thick planetary atmosphere overlaying a surface which reflects radiation according to an arbitrary law is studied. Asymptotic expressions are found for the intensity of radiation diffusely reflected from the atmosphere, incident on the surface of the planet, and propagating within the atmosphere far from the boundaries.
