A numerical MHD simulation has been conducted of plasmoid eruption in
flares in order to better understand plasmoid dynamics, giving attention
to the evolution of the coronal magnetic field from an initially
force-free configuration. Emphasis is placed on the role played by the
perpendicular magnetic field in flare evolution.
