A renormalizable scalar field theory with strong self-coupling and interaction with nucleons is considered. At a sufficiently high density, about twice the nuclear matter density, nucleons become massless. Saturation occurs at a slightly higher density, about 10 to the 15th power g/cu cm and matter is at the saturation point in a bound state. Possibilities are discussed for a third family of degenerate stars, 'clumps' of matter in cosmic rays, and possible violation of the energy condition for collapse to a singularity.
