The process of transitioning Basic Research Science Programs to Operations (R2O) is critical, yet it has proven to be a difficult, unpredictable and expensive process. An efficient, readily-available, and predictable solution for the Space Weather community is required, but it remains elusive. Due to relatively low financial resources in the field of Space Weather, the solution will entail working together as a community and developing architectures and processes for much more efficient transitions. Many years of experience with R2O in the Department of Defense will be described, including Government to Government transitions, University to Government transitions, with both large and small software programs. Pure modeling programs and operational software for sensors/instruments will be described. Recommendations on how to standardize and streamline the overall process (6.1-6.7) will be presented.
