In dealing with wave interactions in a nonuniform plasma, it is customary and often valid to ignore the nonuniformity in the calculation of a local wave-coupling coefficient. This approach fails in two circumstances: when the nonuniformity is an essential ingredient in the wave and when the wavelengths are comparable to scale lengths. In the present paper the local wave-coupling coefficients due to a cold species of a nonuniform (possibly multispecies) plasma are calculated.
