Infrared absorption spectra of a low-albedo water-rich asteroid appear
to show a weak 3.4-micrometer carbon-hydrogen stretching mode band,
which suggests the presence of hydrocarbons on asteroid 130 Elektra. The
organic extract from the primitive carbonaceous chondritic Murchison
meteorite shows similar spectral bands.
