Scientific paper

We have obtained high-resolution mid-infrared and near-infrared images of the Seyfert-starburst hybrid galaxy NGC 7469. Although our direct K-band image is relatively featureless, the residual image created by subtracting a smooth model based on best-fitting ellipses reveals what appear to be inner spiral arm structures. The location of these features is in fair agreement with the inner spiral arms first reported by Mazzarella et al., and the high-surface brightness portions of the spiral features correspond to the previously detected 3'' (1 kpc) diameter ring of radio continuum emission. Our deconvolved mid-infrared image also shows lumps of emission corresponding to the reported circumnuclear starburst ring. We compare our images to published infrared and radio observations, and discuss the mid-infrared excess in NGC 7469 and other starburst galaxies.
