MARGIE is the Minute of Arc Resolution Gamma ray Experiment. Louisiana Tech's part of this experiment is to design and build the attitude determination system. I will be talking about the hardware associated with this project. We now have a one-dimensional fiber optic gyroscope, a CCD camera, and a pc-104 board with a GPS board attatched. MARGIE will fly initially on a balloon with a three-dimensional fiber optic gyroscope, a CCD camera, a gamma ray telescope, and the GPS. We will use the camera, GPS, and gyroscope to determine what the gamma ray telescope is looking at. We are now in the process of writing software to read our instruments, and save the data. We are testing this equipment by placing it on a rotating table that mimics the rotations that the equipment will undergo on the balloon. To keep the data size down, we will be time tagging an image taken from the camera about once every two minutes, and we will use the gyroscope to keep track of the system angular velocity between these readings.
