Recent ground-based and airborne telescopic data about the outer solar system are discussed. Both general and special characteristics of the outer planets, their satellites, and the long-period comets are summarized. Abundances, temperatures, and atmospheric pressures of these planets and satellites are described together with their atmospheric structures, magnetic fields, and radiation belts. Observational results concerning the satellites of Jupiter and Saturn as well as the rings of Saturn are reviewed with emphasis on the atmospheres of Titan and Io and the structure of the rings.
