A formulation for the effects of a time-dependent input flux to a sedimentation system consisting of a diffusive layer underlain by a non-diffusive medium has been developed. The intent is to provide interpretation procedures for the determination of sedimentation rate, diffusion coefficient and mixed layer thickness from observed tracer concentrations. They have been applied, for illustrative purposes, to published 137Cs and 239,240Pu measurements.
