Discrepancies between observations and theoretical calculations of solar p-mode frequencies, v obs, v calc are discussed, and it is proposed to approximate the difference (observation-calculation) versus frequency as: delta v = v obs - v calc = -K vsq, where the constant K is of the order of 1 sec and independent of degree l. Brown's (1984) suggestion that solar p-mode eigenfrequencies are decreased by turbulent convection is considered, to see if this physical effect is responsible for some of the difference V 0 - V calc. An order of magnitude evaluation which shows that it is worthwhile to pursue the idea further, by improving the description of the coupling between convection and oscillations, is presented.
