Sunspot-spectrograms near the solar limb were used to determine the height of the formation of selected strong (chromospheric) lines by micrometric distance measurements. The time sequences of H alpha and Na D line spectra were analyzed to check the possibility of a time variation in the height of formation of these lines. Results show periods in the 3 min range, but also longer periods. The amplitude of the height variation is in the range delta h (rms)=100 to 200 km. This method to study oscillations in sunspots does not need to use of intensity velocity variations.
