In this paper are discussed the uncertainties of the proper motions
which can be obtained from the Astrographic Catalogues put into
machine-readable form at Strasbourg. Also are examined the problems
posed by the use of the plates from other zones. A comparison is made
between the results to be expected with those from modern inventories.
