Tektites are divided into three types on the basis of external form: Type A (Muong Nong), Type B (spheres, teardrops, dumbbells, etc.), and Type C (derived from Type B forms but with evidence of aerodynamic ablation). The surface sculpturing of Type B tektites (grooves, pits, notches) is ascribed to aerodynamic processes rather than to chemical etching after arrival on the surface of the earth.
