Data obtained by the Vela 3/IMP 3, Explorer 34, and HEOS 1 spacecraft on the proton thermal energy and the magnetic energy density in the solar wind are compared. The analysis indicates that, on the average, there is a linear relationship between these parameters, which implies the equipartition of energy between the plasma and the magnetic field. The data from Vela 3/IMP 3 deviate from those obtained by Explorer 34 and HEOS 1, and explanations for this are proposed.
