It is shown that weak classical gravitational waves can be amplified in an isotropic universe above the level permitted by an adiabatic law. This indicates that gravitons could be created spontaneously in an isotropic universe. The past existence of nonequilibrium processes of graviton creation could be proven by detection of differences in the graviton electromagnetic spectrum from the equilibrium background-radiation spectrum.
