A semianalytic theory of lunar librations is presented which is sufficient for the analysis of contemporary high-resolution observations. In the theory, the moon is considered to be rigid, elastic or anelastic, with a gravity potential represented through its fourth-degree harmonics, and moving about the earth according to the main problem of lunar theory. The main theory lunar ephemeris used is the analytic lunar ephemeric of Deprit et al. (Henrard, 1972), augmented by perturbations caused by the planets and the figures of the earth and moon represented by the improved lunar ephemeris as well as by the rotation of the plane of the ecliptic and the figure of the earth. The Euler dynamical equations are solved iteratively by computer to derive the main libration theory. Series of physical libration variables are tabulated which are truncated at the 0.01 arcsec level. The tables may be used to calculated the forced physical librations of the moon at any epoch.
