Based on the initial-value constraints we derive an integral relation involving arbitrary spherically symmetric initial data. As a consequence of this relation an integral inequality is derived which describes the interior content of a spherical trapped surface. This inequality exhibits clearly the possible role played by the trace of the extrinsic curvature. It can enhance or suppress the presence of trapped surfaces.
