An overview is presented of cosmic ray research performed at Hyderabad using balloon-borne instruments, including an experimental study on the primary nucleon component of cosmic rays. Results obtained from these experiments were valuable assets to understanding cosmic rays and provided the basis for developing models of cosmic ray propagation. Further results on the secondary cosmic rays produced in the atmosphere were obtained and calculations were performed to predict the spectral evolution of secondary components in the atmosphere.
