The midlatitude Sq-variation electric field calculated on the basis of ground-based data is related to the solar wind velocity Vsw. This relationship depends on the penetration of a Vsw-dependent high-latitude DP(0) convection system to midlatitudes. The observed effect can make a substantial contribution to the variability of the Sq-variation amplitude from day to day, characteristic of the midlatitude geomagnetic field.
