A two-layer model of the ionosphere is used to analyze the effect of inertial currents in the magetosphere on the evolution of a plasma band (irregularity) that is infinite in the Hall direction. It is shown that field-aligned currents linking the ionosphere and the magnetosphere can reach a value of 0.00001 A/sq m. The highest current density is achieved in the region of concentration jumps. Inertial currents in the magnetosphere are found to lead to an additional twisting of the irregularity.
