An integration is conducted of the orbits of 140 asteroids with 14 semimajor axes and 10 values of eccentricity, in order to further test the Lecar et al. (1973) hypothesis that asteroids in approximately uniform initial distribution were able to serve as the building-blocks of the current planets via the effect of the perturbations of Jupiter. The integrations extended for 1 million Jovian years (about 12 million years); Jupiter was in an elliptic orbit and its line of apsides rotated with a 300,000-yr period induced by the secular perturbations of Saturn. A strong correlation is found between the Liapunov exponent and the crossing time for orbits with crossing times of less than 1 million Jovian years.
