Electrostatic wave trapping near the equatorial magnetosphere is investigated based on properties of the explicit solutions of the electrostatic dispersion equation for almost perpendicular wave propagation. Assuming the electron density to be constant along magnetic field lines near the magnetospheric equator, and assuming plasmas of hot and cold electrons, the equations for wave trapping are considered for two limiting cases.
