This paper presents the results of an analysis of the behavior of anisotropic homogeneous cosmologies with two scale-factors within the framework of a Lagrangian obtained by adding the four-loop corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action. It is shown that the four-loop superstring corrections allow the presence of a compactified internal space if, and only if, the external space develops an inflationary period. No compactification scheme can be consistently proposed suggested by the dynamics of the four-loop correction alone. In lower energy epochs, where the Hilbert-Lagrangian becomes relevant, the Ricci-flat compactifications seem quite reasonable; these lead to an exponential expansion of the external dimensions.
