Observations obtained by the Vega 1 and 2 spacecraft during flybys on March 6 and 9, 1986 provide a description of the shape and movement of the Comet Halley nucleus. The results confirm a previous determination of the long-axis orientation, and surface details of the contours are presented. It is found that the rotation state of the nucleus is dominated by the motion (with a period of 53.5 h) around an axis which appears to be perpendicular to the long axis.
