The authors make the first quantitative calculation of the structure of the current wings associated with the motion of a large conductor through a magnetoplasma (so called Alfvén wings). The resulting picture is somewhat different from the concept first qualitatively introduced by Drell et al., 1965. The authors are also able to calculate the Poynting vector of the perturbation and, hence, on the one hand to confirm a previous calculation of radiated power and, on the other, to understand in physical terms, why this power is different than earlier estimates.
