Gravitational Waves
Scientific paper
The quest for successful reception of gravitational waves is a long story, with the ending still to be written. In this article, I trace the story from thought experiment, through increasingly sophisticated design and prototyping stages, to the point where observations of unprecedented sensitivity are now getting under way. In the process, one can see the sort of effort that is required to transform beautiful and simple relativistic ideas into sensitive experiments that actually work.
