We propose a nulling interferometer in which separate phase modulations of the light beams from each telescope are performed with geometric phase modulators. To demonstrate the proposed concept, an experiment on nulling interferometer with a monochromatic light source is conducted with a Mach-Zhender interferometer. The experimental results show the feasibility of the separate phase modulations. The proposed concept enables us to construct a multi-element nulling interferometer, and to simplify the internal modulation to extract planet signals from symmetric exo-zodiacal emissions.
