Recently Browne and Berman determined the onset of nucleosynthesis of heavy elements in the galaxy to be about 18 billion years ago based on the weak decay of rhenium 187 to osmium 187. This age is appreciably larger than the 13 billion years determined from the uranium decay chains [2]. It is also larger than 16 billion year age of the Universe determined from the standard model by the latest values of the Hubble constant and decceleration parameter. This letter points out that this discrepancy is predicted by Dirac's cosmology and derives from a time- varying weak coupling constant.
