The papers deal with satellite and ground-based observations of the plasmapause, instabilities in that region as well as in the magnetosphere, and wave-particle interactions in the plasmapause. Topics include steady-state plasmapause positions deduced from electric-field models, the structure of the outer radiation zone as given by a simple model of the convective magnetosphere, shocks and solitons in the plasmapause, the minimum thickness of the plasmapause, its noon-midnight asymmetry, the latitudinal variation of light-ion densities over the altitude range from 250 to 1100 km, and ion-temperature measurements within the plasmapause. Other contributions examine excitation and localization characteristics of MHD waves in the magnetosphere, density-sensitive magnetospheric instabilities, instabilities in detached-plasma regions, source regions of Pc 1 pulsations, localization of the Pc 1 source, electric-field variations near the night-side plasmapause, evening magnetic pulsations in the auroral zone during isolated substorms, Pi 2 power-spectrum harmonics associated with the plasmapause, and preliminary results of a detailed analysis of magnetospheric ELF chorus. Individual items are announced in this issue.
