Magnetic reconnection is a key process in magnetospheric dynamics. Prediction of magnetic reconnection locations is extremely important for spacecraft missions targeting magnetic reconnection sites both in the magnetopause and the magnetotail current sheet. Testing the ability of 3D MHD models to predict locations of magnetic reconnection sites is one of the elements of science-based validation of models residing at CCMC. In this study will analyze the location of reconnection points in the magnetopause depending on the orientation of the IMF and the dipole tilt. In particular, we will investigate the impact of variations of the IMF X component on the distribution of the reconnection sites in the sub-solar magnetopause and the cusp regions. To determine the location of reconnection sites we will implement a critical point analysis [Reitan et al, 2002, this meeting]. We will test the sensitivity of the results to the spatial resolution and the type of simulation grid and test the consistency of the results with observations for selected events.
