Measurements of Io's magnetic field on polar passes over the north and south poles of Io provide an upper limit on the strength of an internal dipole moment. The surface equatorial field magnitude of the dipole field is less than 50 nT and further analysis may reduce this estimate. Signatures of strong field-aligned currents are present across the polar cap with a distribution that appears to be correlated with active surface regions or possible hot spots. The features revealed on the polar passes can be related to measurements made on earlier lower latitude passes to gain insight into the nature of the plasma-moon interaction.
