Scientific paper

The evolutionary link is probed between starburst galaxies and active glactic nuclei. Starburst activity in nearby galaxies and extended emission line regions are probed using the STIS.The UV spectrum of starbursts will be modeled using spectral synthesis techniques and AGN emission line ratios will be used to explore photoionization and shock ionization scenarios.
