Observations of supernova 1987A are described and related to supernova
theory. The significance of findings on the outer layer of the
supernova, the light curve and the dynamics of the explosion, and the
flood of neutrinos from the supernova is discussed. The nature of the
mysterious light spot near the supernova is considered.
