HDOS's Model HD-1003 Miniature Star Tracker provides spacecraft designers with exceptional attitude determination performance in an all-solid state design, which weights only 7 lb. Key to achieving the requisite performances is the radiation tolerant, moderate field of view (FOV) optical system which provides, in conjunction with the charge-coupled device (CCD) detector, sufficient sensitivity and area coverage to ensure an average of 6 stars in each FOV during each sample interval. Multiple star data, processed by the tracker's advanced microprocessor, facilitates star identification and improves accuracy (especially in the all-stellar mode) by up to three times when compared to current 1-star trackers. HDOS's on-going HD-1003 development program has now entered the hardware stage. This paper describes the unique optical and electronic capabilities of the HD-1003, which will be of significant interest to future spacecraft designers, especially those involved with 'Small-Sats'.
