Scientific paper

The optimal or most probable photometric parameters of comet Tempel 2 are obtained for all observed apparitions in the period 1873 - 1988. Some increase in the comet's brightness mΔ(1.394) at the heliocentric distance r = 1.394 AU over this period is established. The comet's predicted brightness mΔ(1.394) at its forthcoming 1994 apparition is 8m5±3.8 (before perihelion) and 8m7±1.9 (after perihelion). The effective radius of the comet's nucleus decreases linearly with time T: Rn = 19.0-0.13 T (km), where T is in years. The relative abundance of loose dust particles in the nucleus is fv = 0.73 and their density is 78 kg/m3. The lower limit of the ratio of dust and gas production at r = 1.394 AU is 0.17.
