Stochastic acceleration of an electron in the ionosphere by a standing
wave is discussed in the context of the relativistic Hamiltonian
formulism. Analysis shows that the stochasticity is due to the overlap
of the two resonances of the electron in the standing wave. The
equations of motion are solved.
