Topological defects in two-dimensional cosmology can be either
point-like or two-dimensional. The former class of defects divides the
vacuum in disconnected pieces while the latter corresponds to textures.
We compare these structures with the ones encountered in polymer physics
and discuss the common features of the phase transitions involved.
