The role of ponderomotive effects arising from fast-time-scale plasma turbulence in the development of tearing-mode instability in a collisionless nonrelativistic plasma with dominant Langmuir waves and an electron plasma frequency larger than the electron gyrofrequency is investigated theoretically, applying the MHD equations derived by Dendy and ter Haar (1984). An equation for the magnetic vector component parallel to the magnetic field is obtained which contains a ponderomotive driving term. Numerical calculations of tearing-mode growth rates for typical laboratory and astrophysical plasmas are performed, and turbulent growth rates significantly larger than those for zero turbulence are found.
