The stability of rotational discontinuities and intermediate shocks was examined using a hybrid simulation code. The simulation results were found to differ in many aspects from those obtained by Wu (1987, 1988) from MHD simulations. It was found that rotational discontinuities are relatively stable, and intermediate shocks are not stationary and may disintegrate into rotational discontinuities and waves. The results also indicate that the kinetic effect of particles plays an important role in the structure and stability of rotational discontinuities and intermediate shocks.
