Cosmic Strings: Gravitational Radiation

Scientific paper

The authors calculate the gravitational radiation emitted by a freely moving object in the field of a rectilinear, infinitely thin cosmic string. Expressions are derived for the total energy radiated as a point mass passes near a string, and for the radiation due to a cosmic test string moving parallel to the string responsible for shaping the spacetime background.
