We propose to study the ultraviolet continuum and resonant emission lines in the 1200-3200 A band from a newly discovered AM Herculis like X-ray emitting binary H0139-68 discovered by us (Agrawal et al, 1981). The optical and X-ray characteristics suggest that H0139-68 contain a magnetic white dwarf and the observed soft X-ray flux originates in the accretion column above the magnetic poles of the star. The soft X-ray spectrum is best described as black body emission with kT 40 ev (Agrawal et al, 1982). The proposed observations with IUE are aimed at the study of (I) Ultraviolet continuum to determine whether this is Rayleigh-Jeans end of the same black body which produces the soft X-ray flux; (II) To search for any strong UV flux due to cyclotron emission predicted in the model of Lamb & Master (1979); (III) Study variability.
