Extragalactic objects suggestive of highly ionized gas clouds or gas-rich protogalaxies have been noted in the 'y-alpha forest' quasar-absorption lines; different types of measurement have yielded highly discrepant numbers for the typical diameter, and nothing is known about these clouds' shapes that could suggest their origin. It is presently noted that the observation of enormous, luminous Ly-alpha haloes around some high-redshift radio galaxies furnishes a novel source of information about Lyman cloud size and shape, by serving as light screens against which absorbing clouds can be seen as dark shadows. Attention is given to the possible detection of such an absorbing cloud.
